Since 2003, author LaSheila Yates has been researching and teaching about race, ethnic, gender, and cultural relations. She is the President of Cultural Perspectives, LLC, a diversity education and organizational development company. Her company employees consultants and provides services to businesses throughout the state of Iowa. LaSheila has worked several years as a Civil Rights Investigator/Housing Administrator for the Cedar Rapids Civil Rights Commission.
In July 2009, LaSheila was appointed by the Governor of Iowa to serve as a Commissioner for the Iowa Commission of Persons with Disabilities and in 2012 was elected as Chair. In October 2010, she was also appointed to serve on the Board for the Iowa Department of Human Rights. In 2012, LaSheila was also selected for recognition as a young and emerging leading for “40 Under Forty” for the Corridor Business Journal.
Yates received a Bachelor of Science in Sociology from Southern University A&M College in 2004 and a Master of Arts in Social Science in 2005. She also received Master of Arts in Sociology from Southern Illinois University in 2007. |
